How to add the delivery date picker to your checkout page
Add a native delivery date picker inside Shopify Plus checkout using Checkout Extensibility. Native speed, accurate dates, invalid orders blocked before payment.
Checkout is the highest-stakes placement for a delivery date picker. At Plus volume, every millisecond of latency costs conversions you can't attribute. Every inaccurate date that reaches fulfilment costs a support conversation, a concession, and a customer relationship. The checkout picker isn't a convenience feature — it's infrastructure.
Flare's checkout block is built with Shopify's Checkout Extensibility API — the official framework for Plus checkout customisation. It loads as a native element at 195ms average API response time, calculates date, shipping method, and rate from your full rule set simultaneously, and blocks invalid orders before payment. For the full technical detail, see the checkout date picker feature page.
This guide is for Shopify Plus merchants. If you're not on Plus, use the cart page or slide cart placement instead — they provide equivalent date selection on any Shopify plan.
What a native checkout block gives you
Three things that change when the date picker is built into checkout, not bolted on.
Add the date picker to your checkout
Uses the Shopify Checkout Editor — different from the Theme Editor used for cart and product page placements.
Add the checkout date picker block
This requires Shopify Plus and access to the Checkout Editor. Takes under ten minutes.
- Install the Flare app from the Shopify App Store
- Open the Flare app and begin the setup flow
- On the Checkout Page card, click "Add to theme"
- This opens the Shopify Checkout Editor in a new tab (Shopify Plus only)
- In the Checkout Editor, click "Add app block"
- Scroll to find "Flare – Delivery Date Selector" and click it
- The date picker now appears in your checkout layout — position it between shipping and payment
- Click Save in the top-right of the Checkout Editor
- Return to the Flare app and confirm "Yes, it worked fine", then click Continue
- To test: add products to your cart, proceed to checkout, and confirm the date picker appears and shows valid dates
Your checkout with the date picker
The Flare block sits natively between shipping and payment — part of the checkout, not layered on top.
Checkout placement — answered
Yes. The checkout date picker requires Shopify Plus because it uses Shopify's Checkout Extensibility API, which is only available to Plus merchants. For non-Plus stores, Flare's cart page, slide cart, and product page pickers provide equivalent date selection — the date is captured before checkout and passed through to the order.
No. Flare's checkout block averages 195ms API response time and loads as a native part of the checkout page — not as an external script. There's no additional network request overhead, no JavaScript conflicts with other checkout elements, and no visible lag when the date picker appears.
Yes. You can adjust the label text, date format, and colour accent through Flare's dashboard — no code required. The block inherits Shopify's checkout typography and spacing by default, so it already looks native. Custom adjustments refine it further without touching theme files.
You control this in Flare's settings. If date selection is set to required, checkout blocks until the customer picks a valid date — the order cannot be placed without one. If set to optional, the customer can proceed without selecting a date. Most merchants set it to required so every order has a delivery date attached.
