How to add the delivery date picker to your slide cart or drawer

Add delivery date selection to your cart drawer using the Shopify Theme Editor. No code, no theme files — works on every Shopify plan.

The slide cart — the side panel that appears when a customer adds to cart — is the most common cart interaction on modern Shopify themes, especially on mobile. It's where most customers make their last decision before checkout. Adding the delivery date picker here means customers choose their date without leaving the page, without an extra page load, and without any interruption to their shopping flow.

This is usually the best default placement for stores that use a cart drawer. Florists and food brands that rely on fast add-to-cart flows and scheduled delivery benefit most — the date picker appears exactly when the customer is ready to commit. If your store uses a full cart page instead of a drawer, or if you want to compare placement options, see the placement comparison.

This guide covers two things: how to add the Flare date picker to your slide cart through the Theme Editor, and how to customise its position and label text.

Step by step

Add the date picker to your slide cart

Part A gets the picker live. Part B covers optional customisation.

Part A — Add the date picker

This works with any Shopify theme that has a slide cart and supports Theme Editor app embeds. Takes under five minutes.

  1. Install the Flare app from the Shopify App Store
  2. Open the Flare app and begin the setup flow
  3. In Step 1, click "Add to your theme"
  4. Choose "Slide Cart" as the location
  5. Click "Add to theme" on the Slide Cart block — this opens the Shopify Theme Editor
  6. Flare automatically enables the "Slide Cart Date Picker" embed
  7. In the theme preview, open your cart drawer — you should see the delivery date picker above the checkout button
  8. Click Save in the top-right of the Theme Editor to make it live
  9. Return to Flare and confirm "Yes, it worked fine", then click Continue
  10. To test: go to Online Store > View your store, add an item to cart, and confirm the picker appears in the drawer
Not sure if your store uses a slide cart or a cart page? Add an item to cart. If a panel slides in from the right, that's a slide cart. If you're taken to a separate page, that's a cart page — see the cart page placement guide instead.

Part B — Customise position and label Optional

The default position and label work well for most stores. Adjust these only if your theme layout or branding requires it.

Change the picker position

By default, Flare places the date picker above the checkout button in the slide cart. To move it:

  1. Open the Shopify Theme Editor
  2. Navigate to the slide cart section
  3. Drag the Flare block to your preferred position within the drawer
  4. Click Save

Change the label text

The default label is "Delivery date." To change it:

  1. In the Theme Editor, click the Flare date picker block
  2. In the block settings panel, edit the label text field
  3. Enter your preferred label (e.g. "Choose delivery date", "When should we deliver?")
  4. Click Save
If the date picker doesn't appear after saving, check that the "Flare App Date Picker Cart Drawer" embed is enabled in your Theme Editor app embeds. If your theme uses a custom-built drawer that doesn't support app embeds, contact the Flare team.

Slide cart placement — answered

A slide cart (also called a cart drawer) is a side panel that slides in from the right when a customer adds to cart — they stay on the same page. A cart page is a full, separate page the customer navigates to. Most modern Shopify themes use a slide cart by default. If you're not sure which your store uses, add an item to cart and see what happens — if a panel slides in, that's a slide cart.

It works with any Shopify theme that has a slide cart or cart drawer and supports the Theme Editor app embeds. This includes all Shopify Online Store 2.0 themes and most third-party themes. If your theme uses a custom-built drawer that doesn't support app embeds, contact the Flare team — there's usually a workaround.

Yes. By default, Flare places the picker above the checkout button. You can reposition it within the Theme Editor by dragging the Flare block to a different location in the slide cart section. You can also adjust the label text that appears above the calendar.

No. The slide cart date picker works on every Shopify plan — Basic, Shopify, Advanced, and Plus. Shopify Plus is only required if you want to place the date picker inside the checkout page itself. For slide cart, cart page, and product page placements, any plan works.
