How to block specific delivery dates on Shopify

Control exactly which dates customers can select — block bank holidays, warehouse closures, date ranges, and specific days of the week from a single dashboard.

Every Shopify store has dates it can't deliver. Bank holidays when couriers don't collect. A week in August when the warehouse is closed. Fridays in December when the fulfilment team is processing Saturday orders and can't take new ones. Without a way to block these dates, your checkout shows them as available — and customers book deliveries you can't fulfil.

For florists, this is especially painful around Valentine's Day and Mother's Day — the busiest weeks of the year are also the weeks where capacity limits mean certain dates fill up or become unavailable entirely. For food and beverage brands, every bank holiday Monday that slips through as a selectable date creates a failed delivery and a customer who won't reorder. The cost isn't just the refund — it's the support conversation, the redelivery, and the trust that doesn't come back.

This guide walks through two things: how to choose which days of the week you deliver, and how to block specific dates or date ranges. Both are configured from Flare's dashboard — no code, no theme edits, and changes apply to your calendar immediately.

Step by step

Configure your delivery calendar

Two paths depending on where you are — pick the one that applies.

Part A — Choose available delivery days

If you're still in the Flare setup wizard, you'll find this in Step 2. If you've already completed setup, go to Calendar Configuration in the Flare app.

During setup

  1. Open the Flare app from your Shopify admin
  2. Complete Step 1 — add the date picker to your theme
  3. In Step 2, scroll to "Choose available delivery days"
  4. Use the toggle buttons to disable any days you don't deliver — for example, uncheck Saturday and Sunday to allow weekday delivery only
  5. Watch the live preview update in real time
  6. Click Next to continue setup

After setup (Calendar Configuration)

  1. Open the Flare app from your Shopify admin
  2. Go to Calendar Configuration
  3. Scroll to "Available delivery days of the week"
  4. Use the weekday selectors to enable or disable specific days
  5. Confirm changes using the preview calendar
  6. Click Save
Match your weekday settings to your courier collection schedule. If your courier doesn't collect on Saturdays, disable Saturday delivery — customers will only see dates where collection and delivery are both possible.

Part B — Block specific dates or date ranges

Use blocked dates for anything that isn't a recurring weekly pattern — bank holidays, warehouse closures, staff holidays, seasonal blackout periods.

  1. Go to Calendar Configuration in the Flare app
  2. Scroll to the "Blocked dates" section
  3. Click "Add blocked dates"
  4. Choose "Apply to all dates"
  5. To block a single day: click "Pick a date", select the day (e.g. 25 December), click "Add date"
  6. To block a date range: click "Add date range", choose start and end dates (e.g. 23–27 December for Christmas closure), click "Add range"
  7. Check that blocked dates appear correctly in the calendar preview
  8. Click Save
You can add as many blocked dates and ranges as you need. Most merchants set their bank holidays for the full year in one session — takes five minutes and prevents every wrong-date delivery for the next twelve months.

Common questions

Blocked dates — answered

Yes. In Flare's Calendar Configuration, click "Add date range" and select your start and end dates. The entire range is blocked from customer selection immediately. You can add as many ranges as you need — Christmas, summer shutdown, or any other period.

Yes. Flare supports product-level delivery rules, so you can block dates for specific products or collections without affecting the rest of your catalogue. Set this up in the Product Rules section of the Flare dashboard.

They can't. Blocked dates are removed from the calendar entirely — customers only see dates that are available for delivery. There's no error message needed because the blocked date never appears as an option.

Recurring weekly rules (like disabling weekends) run indefinitely. Specific blocked dates (like bank holidays) are set by date, so you'll need to add next year's dates when they're confirmed. Most merchants set the full year's bank holidays in one five-minute session.

Block the dates you can't deliver. Show only the ones you can.

Set your weekday rules, bank holidays, and seasonal closures once — Flare applies them to every order automatically. Most stores are live within an hour.
