Not all products ship the same way. A bakery's stock cakes ship tomorrow but custom wedding orders need 3 days prep. A plant retailer sells Christmas trees only in November and December. A brand takes pre-orders on a new product before stock arrives. Shopify doesn't support product-specific delivery rules natively - every product shows the same checkout dates regardless of what it is or when it can actually be fulfilled. Wrong dates mean failed deliveries, missed customer expectations and avoidable support tickets. Assign delivery rules to any product or variant using tags, collections, metafields or SKUs. Rules apply automatically at checkout - no manual date management and no code required. Apply the same rule to an entire collection or set different rules per individual SKU or variant.
Choose the type of date rule that fits each product. Set a lead time so a custom order shows a minimum of 7 days from today. Set an earliest available date for a pre-order not yet in stock. Set a latest available date for seasonal or limited-edition products like Christmas hampers that must be ordered by December 20.
Control which shipping methods are available per product
Restrict or show specific shipping methods based on the product. Only show local delivery for fragile items. Hide express shipping for made-to-order products that need longer prep. Show or hide the date picker entirely for products that don't require date selection.
Stop overpromising on products that need more time
Pre-orders, custom products and limited availability items all show accurate dates automatically. No manual date management and no customer expectations set incorrectly at checkout.
